Getting Real

February Contemplation by Carol A. Lampman

Love is the great miracle cure - loving ourselves

works miracles in our lives.  Louse L. Hay

Love is

The month of February is synonymous with the celebration of Love. Every year on Saint Valentine's Day, sweethearts and lovers honor their relationships and express their affections to that special someone with flowers, candy or a special evening out on the town.  They say that love is what makes the world go around, bringing meaning and purpose to our very lives. What Love is.   This is an old question that often defies description. Love is accepting and compassionate. It is open, cooperative and inclusive. Love is expressive, kind, and warm. It fills us with a sense of connection or belonging to someone or to a community.

Unconditional Love does not mean that there are no boundaries because pure Love is accepting, trustworthy and respectful. Love is sensitive and comes with awareness that your personal needs are as important as the needs of others.

What Love is not.

Based on our childhood, it is not uncommon for Love to become distorted. If we grow up with Love that is conditional, we may hold these same values in our adult life. We can feel as though Love is all-knowing. If you love me, you will know what I need. If you Love me, you will take care of me. These views represent our wounding and not the purity of true Love. Pure Love is never demanding, conditional, jealous or dependent.

The Course in Miracles says that "Love is letting go of fear" and these two emotions cannot exist in the same moment.

Love is always the same but its expression varies based on the object of our Love. There is the Love of a partner which has a different expression than our Love for our parents, our children or our friends. However, there is a similar quality that exists throughout all of these relationships. There are times when Love is tough because true Love is never conditional or permissive. In order to parent affectively, you may need to set clear parameters with your children. That does not mean you do not Love them.Take a moment here to describe your experience of Love and write it down. Note what Love feels like both physically and emotionally. What thoughts are connected to Love for you?

Take a moment to Breathe into your heart and allow it to open. What does your heart have to tell you about Love?

What needs to happen to Love more fully and freely?

Most of all, do you Love yourself?

The truth is that you will always be looking for Love outside you until you truly Love yourself. How can you be more loving to the amazing and wonderful person you are. The source of Love exists within. You are and you have always been lovable.
