Spirituality

Figen GencoIt seems"spiritual" people feel guilty or embarrassed when I ask the question; "Do you meditate?" Many have assumptions about what meditation "is" or what it "should" be so they believe that they are not doing it or not doing it right.
You might be meditating while you are working in the yard, walking in the park, or just sitting; without knowing that you ARE meditating.

About doing it right, here is an old story:

Between heaven and hell by Paulo CoehloThe place for sinners

Rabbi Wolf happened to walk into a bar one day; some people were drinking, others were playing cards, and the whole atmosphere seemed to be a bit heavy.

The rabbi left without saying a word; a young man followed him out.

"I know you didn't like what you saw,” said the young man. "Only sinners live in there.”

Back some time ago I saw a moving TV documentary. It told the story of a young man by the name of Bill, with severe physical handicaps. He was born without legs, feet, arms, or hands, and he had appendages on his shoulders that looked somewhat like small fins. Of course I immediately noticed how unusual Bill looked, but truly the most striking thing about him was the wonderful radiating presence he exuded. His eyes had a beautiful sparkle, and he displayed a sense of humour as well as strength. At the time of the show he was in his late twenties, had a successful professional career, and was just newly married.

An Integral Spirituality
The silken thread that unites the world's great wisdom traditions.

Ken WilberRenowned philosopher and theoretical psychologist Ken Wilber, now 55, has devoted himself to integrating Eastern and Western philosophical systems.

The author of 22 books translated into 30 languages, Wilber has built a following of activist/thinkers?from philosophers and spiritual teachers to psychologists and scientists -- and is the founder of the Integral Institute, a think tank encouraging the cross-fertilization of ideas. Beliefnet is pleased to introduce Wilber as a new columnist.

What's my philosophy? In a word, integral. And what on earth?or in heaven?do I mean by ?integral?? The dictionary meaning is fairly simple: ?comprehensive, balanced, inclusive, essential for completeness.? Short definition, tall order.

Dear World Tree Prayer Network, International Energy Workers, Friends and Family:

Some of us are reeling with frustration and loss with the outcome of the US Elections yesterday. Peace seems more illusive than ever before, fear and the prospect of danger seem to dominate the hearts of most Americans and the reality of isolation felt by "opposing" views from mainstream power-bases is wrenching.

Following are edited excerpts from a presentation David Deida did at the Bodhi Tree. Readers should be aware that these excerpts include a few graphic sexual references .

"You can open to God through sex. By learning to open your heart and body while embracing and trusting all energies from rough ravishment to sublime gentleness, you can open to be lived by the mystery that lives the entire universe. You can open to be lived by love with no limits, so you are alive as love, offering the deepest gifts of your heart spontaneously and without hesitation, in every moment, at work, with your family and friends, as well as in bed with your lover." - David Deida, in Finding God Through Sex

The full moon of Aquarius/Leo is the first full moon of 2005. We mark the end of the first lunar month since the earthquake and the tsunami in Asia. We?ve all been touched by the profound suffering and loss in our human family. We?ve felt the awesome power of nature and the smallness of our individual power in the face of that force. Yet we?ve also felt our hearts filling with compassion, giving our money, our prayers and our love to those in need.

Our health is founded upon a relationship between body, mind and spirit ? and the wellness of each part ? and the physical body itself is only one component in the overall equation of well-being. This principle of holistics recognises that a stress free and happy mind and a blossoming spiritual life are major factors in our physical health. Just as stress and negative emotions silently erode our life force, so too the practice of meditation releases a new and positive life force ? borne of inspiration, happiness, peace ? into every part of our existence, creating the optimum conditions for vitality and health. With meditation even our sleep pattern can change ? an improvement in quality, a likely reduction in quantity. More time and energy to live our lives!
