BreathWork
Consciousness is eternal. Awareness knows no death. Only
unawareness dies. To be conscious is to be alive. To be alive is to be
conscious. To remain unconscious is to choose death. If we want to get free
of the wheel of birth and death, we need to be completely awake. ! Ultimate
liberation comes only when waking up and staying awake is our primary focus
and our main passion. We were born to reach higher and higher into
consciousness… All the way to enlightenment! All the way to
ascension! Hello Everyone,
Welcome to the
Winter 2009 Breath and Breathing Report.
Please note the following dates,
and make plans to visit Los Cabos for at least one or two of them. Life
skills/healing arts practitioners, breathwork teachers and students, and
natural science experts and enthusiasts from all over the world will be
gathering here at Baja Bio Sana during these new and full moon times. There
will be programs lifestyle re-education, spiritual development, nutrition,
yoga, organic farming and permaculture, the creative and performing arts,
and more.

The focus these days is on the
love and wisdom of the Divine Mother. (Below is a recent article—some
random thoughts about this.) I am so blessed and so thankful to have so
many wise and loving women in my life! Each one of them expresses some
qualities of the Divine Mother.
We are all teachers and students
here. Our purpose is to express and exchange our unique talents, strengths,
and gifts. I am finding that trusting life, saying yes to what is, and
loving ourselves and each other unconditionally is very easy to do, and it
is so rewarding! Growing in patience and compassion, love and wisdom, is a
perfect way to spend our free time.
The practice of awareness,
relaxation, and conscious breathing adds such an amazing dimension to
whatever we do. It uplifts us and it uplifts those around us. It enhances
whatever we do and it improves our lives—regardless of how good
things are going and how great our lives already are.
It is such a pleasure to be
supporting others, learning from them, and sharing what we learn together.
The awakening of creative and healing energies, and the natural openness
and clarity that results from Spiritual Breathing is such a blessing to the
world. And for me, it’s always fun to see the initial doubt and
skepticism give way to the inevitable joy and celebration!
When you touch upon something
again and again, it becomes an automatic, effortless. It becomes a constant
state. In breathwork, we are doing just that: we are touching on sublime
moments of love and peace and joy, of energy and aliveness, of freedom and
safety, oneness and wholeness. With every breath we become more awake, more
alive and present. And the result is a constant—or at least a
constantly recurring—experience of those moments!
The key is awareness. It is the
first step and the last step. In fact, it may be the only step. When we
abandon the moment-to-moment state of conscious awareness, when we hold on
to the past, or to a belief, a position, or a point of view, to a fear, or
to any mind-made reality, then we abandon our real true self: we shut
ourselves off from the source of life—as if that is possible!
Since my last stop in Ventura,
CA in October, I’ve been melting into the gardens, meditating,
digging the well, sprouting seeds, planting veggies, gazing at the stars,
listening to the birds, picking grapefruit, sweet limes, and avocados.
I’ve also been welcoming visitors to Baja Bio Sana.
This week, I am in Cancun, enjoying time with good friends and all the
wonderful people in the TR (Transcendental Rebirthing) family. And
I’m looking forward to the pleasure of a special concert performance
by Kirtana. (I love her music!)
I want to thank everyone who is
writing to me. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings, insights
and breakthroughs. I’ve gotten several questions reflecting a similar
issue concerning breathwork practice in the past couple of months, and so I
will share with you here a bit of that here.
Training Notes:
(Q & A)
Q: I
have been experiencing a lot of anxiety following my sessions. What’s
happening?
A: It sounds like you are activating but not integrating
the stuff that is coming up in your sessions. It sounds like you are
judging and resisting what you are feeling, instead of purely or completely
feeling it. It sounds like you have unconscious habits of thinking,
feeling, or behavior; and these habitual reactions are the real problem.
You need to catch and change one
thought/reaction at a time. You need to watch each negative or scary
thought/feeling/sensation, and relate to it in a different way than your
existing habit/pattern dictates. You have to remember that our experience
is a always a combination of the "thing" (whether it be pain,
fear, joy, etc.) and our reaction to the “thing.” Our thought
or feeling or view of the "thing" is what actually creates our
experience of it. And anxiety is no exception.
Whenever you catch a negative or
limiting mental/emotional/physical reaction, you need to turn it into a
conscious relaxed breath. Let every feeling of anxiety cause you to relax
and let go of your tension/contraction. Breathe into the feeling. Breathe
into exactly what is, as it is, in each moment. Remember that no matter how
you feel, you are always already free and safe. No matter what you think,
you are always already free and safe!
The pain of fear and
anxiety is the energy experience that results from one part of you pitting
itself against another part of you. The fear, the pain, the anxiety is not
something separate from you. It is YOU in the moment it is expressing! So
embrace it. Surrender to it. Celebrate it! The energy of unconditional love
and acceptance, directed toward your fears and anxiety, will transform
your hell into heaven.
There is a certain energy cycle
inherent to each breathing session. Energy gets activated, and in turn
thoughts, feelings, and sensations are also activated. It
all increases and intensifies until it reaches a natural peak. Then
the energy recedes and takes with it all that is not you or yours. This is
a natural cycle of healing, growth, and transformation. But if you
interrupt the cycle, if you create an artificial peak, if you try to end or
turn the session around before its time, then the natural resolution does
not occur.
The fear of things "getting
worse" and the unconscious belief in "irreparable
damage" are primal fears. The key to becoming free of them is to flip
to the equal and opposite thought/feeling. Do this exactly when negative or
limiting consciousness factors are expressing themselves.
You are always already safe and
free. Don't let random thoughts or passing feelings cause you to believe
differently! Remember to trust in life and in yourself. Everything is part
of the healing process. Use each moment of anxiety to re-program your
mind/body system. Use those anxious moments to remind yourself of who and
what you really are!
Random Thoughts
on the Divine Mother…
As a little catholic boy, I was
taught that if you ever get in trouble with God, or if you need some help
from his Son, you could always turn to the Divine Mother. She would
intervene on your behalf. She would make sure that everything worked out
for the best.
As I grew up, I formed my own
thoughts and feelings, and came to see the Divine Mother as the ultimate or
original feminine principle, and the quintessential example of
goodness.
But she must be more than that.
She must represent the reality beyond time and before male and female. She
must be a field beyond good and bad, right and wrong, beyond us and
them.
Everything that exists
pre-supposes a space within which that thing could exist. And to me, that
infinite eternal space that precedes and contains everything—even
God—is the Divine Mother. They say that behind every great man you
will find a powerful woman. Why should our Father in Heaven be any
different?
The Divine Mother is the
infinite eternal intelligence behind reality. The Divine Mother is the
natural intelligence inherent in and around every living
creature—every plant, every animal, every insect, as well as every
storm. (Maybe that’s why we intuitively call it “Mother
Nature.”)
I associate the Divine Mother
with conscious, active, all-inclusive, unconditional love, and a total lack
of “against-ness” of any kind, toward anything or anyone.
Because of the Divine Mother, no one is ever alone.
Just as every child is formed
and grows in the womb of its loving mother, everything in existence is
formed and nurtured within the womb of the Divine Mother. In the same way
that a tiny infant is kept safe and warm in the loving arms of its human
mother, the world and the whole universe is held safely in the arms of our
Divine Mother.
A wise mother knows when to let
her child be free to explore and play, to experiment and learn; and she
also knows when to intervene. It seems to me that every case of
“divine intervention” must be the work of the Divine
Mother.
The current awakening and the
sacred renewal that is taking place on the planet today must be the work of
the Divine Mother. I see Her gently and powerfully expressing the natural
law of love in every way—even through men!
Whenever love and peace and joy
are expressed by anyone anywhere: that’s the Divine Mother at work.
Whenever goodness is awakened, supported, nurtured, or praised:
that’s the Divine Mother at work.
Whenever pain and suffering or
any form of negativity is unmasked, and the perfection within is revealed:
that’s the Divine Mother at work. Whenever we wisely and lovingly
hold our tongue: that’s the Divine Mother at work.
Whenever anyone anywhere stands
up and speaks out for love: that’s the Divine Mother at work.
Whenever for no reason at all, the worst among us does something good,
that’s the Divine Mother at work. Grace is the way of the Divine
Mother. And love is her only action.
I have heard that when Babaji
left his body in 1984, he said: “I leave everything in the hands of
the Divine Mother.” So it seems that in the end, just as in the
beginning, every being, every moon, every star, every heart, even Lord
Shiva, bows to the Divine Mother!
In case you thought I was taking
this all a bit seriously, I’d like to add this little story about
piercing to the heart of reality, about identifying the ultimate source of
all—which I am happy to call the “Divine Mother:”
A famous scientist/philosopher
gave a talk at a large university about the origin of the universe. He
brought into question the current theories, and proposed several
alternative possibilities.
At the wine and cheese after the
talk, he was having a conversation with an elderly Native American woman,
who said that she and her ancestors believe that the universe is sitting on
the back of a big white turtle.
The professor said: “Well
then what is the turtle sitting on?”
And the old woman said:
“Don’t get smart with me sonny. It’s turtles all the way
down!”
OK, That’s all for
now.
I wish everyone a glorious
holiday season. And I look forward to seeing you here in Los Cabos in the
coming year.
My travel schedule for 2010
includes Russia, Italy,
Lithuania, and
Estonia, in April, May and June.
More on that soon.
Love to the all and the
small,
Dan
